FREQUENLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What do I need to bring?
  1. Make sure you have suitable clothing per the weather conditions. The weather can change in an instant on Eagle Lake so having more than a few layers on hand is a must. This includes everything from warm gear to rain gear as well as hats/gloves and sunscreen.
  2. Food & Beverage. A full day on the water can wear you out if you're not used to it. Having enough fluids and enough to eat is essential to a successful and rewarding trip.
  3. You can bring your own tackle if you feel more comfortable and confident fishing with a favorite rod/reel lure setup. I will have all the neccessary tackle on-board if you would like to use mine as well.
  4. If you plan on fishing with live bait you must purchase that on your own. I have several bait shops I can refer you to before we head out.
  5. You MUST have a valid fishing license.

Q. Where can I get a fishing license?

  1. You can purchase your fishing license & outdoors card at: http://www.ontario.ca/travel-and-recreation/fishing
  2. If you'd like to purchase a license when you arrive, you can head over to Bobby's Corner. Bobby's offers both resident & non-resident fishing and hunting licenses. They also offer a variety of live bait & tackle. You can see more information about Bobby's Corner by going to: http://www.famousbobbys.com/

Q. Where can I find information on the latest fishing regulations?

  1. The latest fishing regulations for Ontario can be found at: https://www.ontario.ca/travel-and-recreation/ontario-fishing-regulations-summary

Q. What lodges are the best for fishing Eagle Lake and having you as my guide?

If you plan on staying on Eagle Lake there are a few lodges that I firmly recommend. Each of the following go above and beyond for their guests.

  1. https://www.stanleys.com/
  2. http://www.eaglewestresort.com/index.html
  3. http://www.birchdalelodge.com/index.htm
  4. http://www.vermilionbaylodge.com/
  5. http://www.eaglelakelodge.ca/
  6. http://www.northwindsoutfitters.com/
  7. http://www.eaglelakesportsmenslodge.com/

If you have any questions about these options feel free to give me a call and I will do my best to help you find the best location for you and your group. Hope to hear from you soon.

LATEST CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

I have been fishing Eagle Lake for 13 years.  Ever since the beginning, guide Cal Ritchie has proven himself time and again.  He is easily one of the best guides on the lake.  Whether you are fishing the Western Arm, Vermilion Bay Area, Nash’s Bay (and south of there), or all the way to the middle section known as “Big Eagle”…Cal knows it all like the back of his hand.  Cal is a guide who wants his client to get the fish, not competing with other guides for bragging rights for his own ego.  He’s out there basically every day, and you just get the sense you are chasing fish he KNOWS are there.  Cal’s instincts set him apart above most “run of the mill” guides.  Stopping to fish a spot based on wind or light penetration…BANG…I hooked the biggest fish of my life.  My boat partner…same thing later in the day…got a 47”.  Wind shift?  You got it, race to a spot…a few minutes later I’m holding a 48”.  Going back on a fish at moonset…BOOM…my buddy is holding a 47”.  Fishing a spot cause “I seen one here a few days ago that was a real dandy”…BANG she’s on the end of my line.  Fishing with Cal, you can really cut down your time to be on fish.  You can’t ask for more than that.

We have fished with many guides on Eagle Lake the past ten years.  We have been fishing with Cal for the past five years.  Cal is out there finding fish for his clients, not himself.  We usually have to force him to fish with us!  He really gets a kick out of watching his clients catch big fish.  He has guided our daughter to some really nice muskies.  He has lived near Vermilion Bay for over 25 years and is very knowledgeable about the area wildlife and the lake structure.  If you go out fishing with Cal, you are going to see some fish!  We have seen some of our biggest muskies with Cal.  A day spent on the boat with Cal is a day you will never forget!  We highly recommend fishing with Cal.

Since I've met Cal several years ago, I've been lucky enough to get out with him at least a couple days during my annual Fall trip. Cal has consistenly put me and my fishing partner on a bite even in some of the worst weather conditions and patterns. Cal has spent countless years fishing Eagle Lake and the surrounding areas for all species. His knowledge of the lake is second to none up there. I've caught some of the biggest fish of my life with Cal but more importantly I've gained the knowledge to become a better angler and have become more successful on my own boat because of him. What separates Cal from many other guides up there is the fact that he's always in tune with the lake because he's out there every day grinding it out to stay on top of the fish. If you plan on fishing Eagle Lake anytime soon you can't go wrong with Cal. He's a cut above the rest.

ABOUT CAL RITCHIE

Cal Ritchie has a well-deserved reputation of being on one of the top fishing guides on Eagle Lake and the surrounding area. He has lived in the Vermilion Bay, Eagle Lake area of Northwest Ontario for almost 25 years guiding and educating anglers both young and old. Over 15 of those years Cal worked at the legendary Andy Myers Resort. He has guided many of the top TV personalities including John Gillespie from Wisconin's Waters & Woods.

As a professional guide, Cal has often spent 6 to 7 days a week on the water over the course of a season. After two decades of fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, Northern Pike & Muskie, Cal has earned the merit of a true professional multi-species fishing expert. That is the reason why many anglers, novice to expert, have looked to Cal for his expertise while fishing Eagle Lake and many other similar bodies of water.
